Appalachian Alchemy for me was an unputdownable read The characters are as real as you and I The desperation in the poor Appalachian river town is palpable The author s prose is beautiful and works well juxtaposed against the gritty and visceral scenes he writes The story reveals an underlying cruelty of cyclical poverty successive generations likely doomed to follow in the footsteps of those before them This story will make you empathize for the main protagonist Book and root for him to break the mold One of my favorite reads in the last couple of years and an author to watch I highly recommend this book
