Abbott Is determined to use her extra perceptive senses to identify the gunman responsible Did Gary's patchy past brew up some fatal trouble or could his death be linked to a series of cryptic letters concocted by Mack's anonymous adversary With a second case to crack innocent lives at stake and a media frenzy in their midst Mack and. I have read all of the books in this series I really enjoyed the first two Mack is a bar owner with a medical condition that has her senses crossed in a way that makes her an asset to her policeman boyfriend Duncan and her ragtag group of crime solves The Capone Club I like that the set up a female bar owner is uniue and Mack is a very strong relatable flawed thus realistic character Despite all that there is to like about the series the third and fourth books have left something to be desired In this installment Mack is still being stalked by a homicidal letter writer In addition she and the Capone Club a group of friends who patronize Mack s bar are on the case of a wrongfully convicted husband in the death of his wife Mac is also still kind of waffling between wanting to be with Duncan and her attraction to MalIt was difficult for me to really get into this story The plot regarding the letter writer really overtakes much of the book but it is very plodding which puts a damper on the desire to read this book I think it is fine to have a plot and then a subpot but here the subplot regarding the wrongfully convicted man is interesting than the main plot and fast moving It is always difficult to have a plot that spans multiple books In order to really do it well there needs to be intriguing plot twists and changes and mini resolutions that leave the reader feeling that they got their money s worth but also that they want to read the next installment That is missing here This is the second book with the letter writer plot line and it is still not clear who the letter writer is although there is some idea at the end of this book Unfortunately this series has lost me so I doubt I ll read the next book in this series I also would say that the waffling between two Duncan and Mal is irritating since Duncan has been written in such a way as to make him not so likeable It s hard to see why Mack wants to stay with himI received a complementary copy of this book from NeGalley

Abbott For Mack and her barfly allies solving homicides calls for eual parts instinct and wit To strain out a crafty criminal the mixture has got to be absolutely perfect It's a week before Christmas but Milwaukee bar owner Mackenzie Mack Dalton is hardly in good spirits Chilled to the core by the murder of bouncer Gary Gunderson Mack. This is the 4th book and I am really enjoying the series for the most part I find the main character in this book to be interesting and a bit frustrating She has a uniue conditions which allows here to process clues in a different way which makes the storiesmysteries intriguing She has a good group of friends that make of the Capone Club that help round out the her uirks and help to interpret clues and gather information to solve the mysteries What frustrate s me about Mack is the author s continuation of what appears to be a love triangle It has gone on for three books now and it doesn t show signs of ending I don t mind romance mixed with my cozy mysteries but I don t enjoy the love triangle not even in the romance books I readStarting with book 2 there have been two mysteries One involves an anonymous letter writer that has challenged Mack with a series of clues which if not solved lead to deadly conseuences This story line runs along side of a second mystery which has been a cold case that the police have not solved or an innocent person in jail I enjoy both mysteries and like how the author intertwines them both through the story It keeps the plot moving and the pace uick The story line regarding the letters is continual and not solved in the books so each story has ended on a bit of a cliffhanger That doesn t bother me much as long as we eventually get it solvedI have enjoyed the series the characters and the mysteries I just need the love triangle solved to fully enjoy the stories because I feel it is starting to detract from the books
